Composition

Chairperson: A former Judge of the Supreme Court or Chief Justice of a High Court.

Term: Five years, or until the age of 70, whichever is earlier.
Appointment: Made by the central government. Appointing the chairperson and judicial members requires consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Secretariat: Headed by a secretary-level officer of the central government.
