What the new system changes in practice

The Rules do not create a new time zone. They make the existing national standard legally usable across systems and provide Indian channels for its accurate dissemination.

CSIR-NPL standard: The CSIR-National Physical Laboratory maintains IST as UTC plus 5 hours and 30 minutes through atomic clocks.
NavIC support: ISRO has traceability to IST through satellite links. NavIC can support secure dissemination of Indian time.
Laboratory network: Five legal metrology laboratories will help distribute IST with high accuracy to users across sectors.
Bengaluru demonstration: The White Rabbit Technology-based network demonstrated high-accuracy IST dissemination. It reduced reliance on foreign timing sources for critical systems.
